I was born and raised in Idaho in the fishing and hunting industry. I have been involved in the guide industry for the past 32 years. My parents have been in the Guiding industry for the past 38 years. I started fishing at the age of 2 years and have never stopped. I have an extensive fishing background and have been fortunate enough to fish some of Idaho’s many lakes and rivers, New Zealand’s lakes and rivers, and many of British Columbia’s lakes, rivers, and of course salt water. I immigrated to Canada in 1988 with my family and began guiding saltwater and freshwater fisherman in 1989. I still continue to guide and have no plans to give it up. I prefer to fish light tackle both in fresh and salt water. While guiding in the Sonora Island area in the summer of 1998 along with fellow guide Scott Burneski we started working with the concept of a true releasing and sliding flasher. The sliding/releasing flasher concept changed faces many times during our extensive test periods of summer guiding. We finally developed a full proof-sliding flasher and began giving demo models out to our fellow guides for trial. They were a great success among the guide industry. Scott and I decide to pursue the idea of a patent and possible production of the flasher. I filed for a patent on the flasher in November of 1999. What a process it turned out to be. With patent in hand, I contacted the president of Gibbs, Syd Pallister, to introduce the product to him. As they say, the rest is history.
As for naming the flasher, the credit goes to a client of mine who is a wiz with the marketing world. He came up with the name Farr Better Flasher. It truly was match for our product from the beginning. Why you say, because of its ability to allow the fish to showcase its fighting abilities and still have all the attracting power of a flasher, which in turn makes it a far better product for the fisherman.

What can I say?? I have been at Sonora Resort for the past 7 years and fished during the transition years of live bait & cut plugs to the introduction of the down rigger with gear. Flashers are necessary to give your lure action, at the same time they take away the thrill of the fight with the salmon by tiring the fish prior to getting the net in the water. Fishing with Justin and the Farr Better Flasher totally reinvigorated my passion for fighting my catch. Now we are back to the days where angling skill takes precedent over just being a passenger in the boat. There is no doubt that the Farr Better Flasher is the first product to focus on putting the sport back into sport fishing!
