Operations Support Biologist

Evaluates the performance of all major salmon enhancement facilities in the Pacific Region and provides leadership and guidance in science, technology and project management to ensure the highest standard of operations.

Organizes, designs and conducts research on a wide range of biological, bio-engineering and technical problems leading to the development and testing of new technologies and operational strategies for salmon conservation, restoration, and enhancement projects.

Monitors, assesses and recommends changes to the Department’s salmon production plans and procedures to maximize effectiveness, economy and integration into program and regional goals for fisheries and habitat enhancement, management and protection.

Acts as a focal point for the exchange of scientific and technical information within the Habitat and Enhancement Branch, between other branches of the federal, provincial and foreign governments and to the public and private industry.

Leads and participates in multidisciplinary teams to design and develop new enhancement projects and to upgrade and assess existing facilities and projects.

Organizes and administers contracts to operate facilities, conduct research or other studies by private consultants, including First Nations, community groups and other levels of government.
