Below are some of the great 2000 "Success Stories" that have been sent to us. Have a story of your own? Click Here!

Paul Kneeland of Fish Sniffer Magazine in California (about the Army Truck Convex)

Withers Cove Lodge, SE Alaska, United States

"I decided to go out trolling for salmon by myself. I started trolling my favorite "Army Truck" colour Convex lure at 30 feet deep on the Penn downrigger and caught a couple of 5 pound pinks near Danger point. The wind had kicked up a little and the strait was getting a little rolly. I stayed in the lee of Killisnoo Island and was comfortable. Suddenly, my rod violently popped off the downrigger and my line tore off ahead of the boat at about 40 mph!! What the hell?! The 30 lb test line was ripping off the reel, the drag was screaming bloody murder, and my line and lure were way out in front of the boat. I clamped down on the drag and the line cracked like a rifle shot, just as a pair of dolphin jumped about 100 yards in front of the boat! WOW! That definitely was the biggest, most powerful "fish" I had ever hooked!"

John Bond of Rod Dipper Charters (about the Gator Spoon)

Port Hope, Ontario, Canada

"I have just joined the Gibbs Pro Staff Team, and my first experience was wonderful. There were tiny fish marking near bottom and they piqued my curiosity. With a Fire Orange Clear Crystal Gator Spoon, size 5, we had 15 hits and boated 10 nice Lake Trout. By the way, I only had one of these lures and the charter lasted for 4 hours and 10 minutes. Talk about a great day!"

Jose Goncalves (about the Minnow)

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

"I fished those lures in salt water in the state of Maine (U.S.A.) for striped bass, blue fish and mackerel and I had a great success with them."

Allen Riley (The Fisherman, April 11, 1996.) (Gibbs Minnow)

Eastern U.S.A. Fishing Guide

"The blue black version has been the single most deadly colour but predators seem to strike the Gibbs Minnow more because of its profile and action than because of its colour."

Jeff Woo (1991 World Salmon Championship (Safeway Daiwa Junior Division))

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

15 year old Jeff Woo won the 1991 World Salmon Championship (Safeway Daiwa Junior Division) with the 55 pound Chinook he caught August 3, off the Argonaut Wharf in Campbell River, B.C., Canada. Jeff was fishing with a #60 Gibbs Minnow in Glo Green Yellow. Jeff returned to Argonaut Wharf the following year and caught a 46 pound Chinook from the same spot with the same Gibbs lure.

Victor Isaacson (had great success with the Gibbs Minnow)

"I was doing my usual lunch break fishing when I hooked into this huge Spring. It turned out to be the all-time record for the largest Salmon off the Pier since the Pier officially opened in 1987. I was using a 2 oz green Gibbs Minnow Lure. I have caught quite a number of large salmon off the Pier over the years and the greatest percent of them were caught using the Gibbs Minnow."

Lloyd Antonik (Mudraker)

Lloyd Antonik caught a 224 pound halibut jigging with a Mudraker. Truly a beautiful fish!

Walter at Timberland Sports (#7 Gibbs Stewart Spoon)

Port McNeill, B.C., Canada

Walter recalls the time when a friend's 7 year old son caught a 36 pound Lake Trout on a #7 Gibbs Stewart Spoon Aishihik Lake in the Yukon. "I didn't really believe in spoons up until that point. I couldn't believe it when he caught such a big trout on a spoon! It was an exceptional catch!"

Glenn Babala, Sports North (using a Gibbs FST #5 50/50 lure)

Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

"On a number of occasions I have fished a lake in the central Yukon both in the winter ice fishing as well as in the summer trolling. Access is only by airplane or snowmobile in the winter. We have a small boat at the lake we use and on one particular trip, my son, a friend and myself were trolling along this bluff. On seven consecutive passes we caught seven lake trout between 20 and 30 pounds all using a Gibbs FST #5 50/50 lure. We have had great success with this lure many times fishing lake trout and we now have named our boat at this lake the FST."

Shari T. (Gibbs Highliner)

Vancouver, B.C., Canada

"I had just moved to Vancouver, B.C. and had the opportunity to do fishing with May and Dan of Affordable Charters. It was the 4th day and we had been fishing all day with no luck. We were after Coho and there was no retention on Chinook that year. It was around 1:30 pm and I was fervently praying to the fishing Gods to smile upon me and grant me my one wish.
Zzzzzzziiiinnngggggggggggg!!!!! The line took off and I quickly grabbed the rod and hung on for dear life. It seemed as if the fish would never stop. All of a sudden, he turned and came screaming toward the boat. I reeled as fast as my little hands could reel. There was barely any line left! He turned back again and came toward the boat. I reeled quickly again...We were only in 25 feet of water, so the fish couldn't dive, he had to go straight out.
A half an hour later, I was hoping this monster would soon tire. My arms were screaming for me to stop, and shaking so badly that I thought I would drop the rod. I finally got the fish to come towards the boat when suddenly, I saw the Gibbs Highliner flasher pop to the surface. The flasher first went left and then right and finally towards the boat. The monster was just as tired as me, but I bet I was more excited.
I knew this thing was big, but nothing could have prepared me for my first look. After about 15 minutes of Dan trying to catch the fish by the tail, he finally caught it and was able to lift it into the boat where we had our picture taken with this 45 pound brute. This was the biggest fish I had ever caught and my only regret was that I had to let it go. That's okay though, I'm sure he's waiting for me to come back and try again."
